2020 Encounter Event

2020 Person-Centred Encounter Group

We are pleased to announce that the 2020 Person-Centred Encounter Event will run from Wednesday 1st to Sunday 5th July, 20202. Once again, the event will take place in the beautiful and highly accessible, Gregynog Hall, near Newtown, Powys. The Hall is surrounded by 750 acres of grounds, giving a perfect, tranquil setting for encounter. The event will begin with dinner at 6 pm on Wednesday and end following afternoon tea (around 4 pm) on Sunday.

The person-centred basic encounter group provides an opportunity for both person-centred meeting and developing person-centred being. “In such a group the individual comes to know himself and each of the others more completely than is possible in the usual social or working relationships.” (Rogers, C. 1969, Encounter Groups, p16). This experiential event offers a self-structured, self-facilitated space for person-centred practitioners and trainees where learning relating to encounter can be gained. It offers the potential to develop a more person-centred way of being, through offering space to develop greater congruence and deeper understanding of both person-centred and encounter theory.

Gregynog Hall has 57 bedrooms in the Hall and a further 6 in Garden Cottage. Unless specifically requested otherwise, all rooms will be allocated for single occupancy.

The bedrooms of the Hall reflect the character and personality of the property with rooms of varying sizes and styles from grand historic rooms to single study bedrooms. All rooms enjoy stunning views of the grounds. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities with wash basins, towels and toiletries; some are fully en-suite. To maintain the peace and tranquility, only some rooms have televisions. A small number of rooms are fully assessable and equipped for those with disabilities.

Getting There

Gregynog Hall lies near the quiet village of Tregynon, 6 miles north of Newtown in Powys. It is easily reachable, within 2 hours of Birmingham, Manchester, Chester and Liverpool and just 50 minutes from Shrewsbury. The nearest railway station is Newtown, on the Birmingham—Aberystwyth line. There is a train leaving Birmingham at 14:25 which arrives in Newtown at 16:05. We would hope to facilitate taxi sharing for anyone coming by train. For the return journey, there are trains leaving at 16:41 (arriving in Birmingham 18:27) and 18:39 (20:23). Train times are subject to change, so you are best checking here for the latest information.

The nearby A483 connects to the motorway network. The nearest airport is Birmingham, and there are regular trains and buses from Birmingham Airport to Newtown. We hope to facilitate car sharing where possible.

We are able to offer flexible payments to spread the cost. The earlier you book, the lower the monthly rate:

If you book in

You need to pay

˜˜˜Book before November and pay less than £50 per month!

Those who have attended prior events will notice a significant increase in the price of the 2020 event compared to previous years. This is because, on 1 July 2019, Gregynog Hall became independent charity and, as such, is no longer able to offer the preferential terms that we previously enjoyed. It also has to charge VAT on the invoice, which we were previously exempt from. These changes have resulted in a substantial price increase, which we have had to pass on. We continue to run Encounter Events as a not-for-profit enterprise and we (Teri & Dave) draw nothing from the company. Any surplus from prior events is used to fund bursaries for future ones.

We still hope to able to offer a small number of partial (up to 30%) bursaries for 2020. These will be allocated on a first-come first served basis. If you need a bursary please indicate this in the comments on the booking form and we will consider your booking as provisional until the bursary is confirmed. You can also email us to discuss your needs and we will do our best to help.

You can make payment online, by bank transfer, direct debit and debit or credit card. Extended payment terms may be available, where necessary. Please email Teri and Dave at for further details or complete the booking form at

To keep costs as low as possible this event is being advertised by word-of-mouth and online networking. We would appreciate it if you could pass the word along to anyone who you think may be interested, also if you would mention it on Twitter/facebook and the like.
